How To Calculate Consumption of Electricity in Units in Houses

$
0
0
In India, the 'Electricity Charges'  are made for ‘units’ of electricity consumed. The rate of charges per unit is different in different states of India.

What is one unit of electricity?

The various electrical equipments used in our houses consume various amount of electricity.   The power of electric equipments are measured in ‘watts’.

One unit of electricity will be consumed when 1000 watts of an electric equipment / total of  1000 watts by various equipments is used for one hour.

To  calculate our monthly /bi-monthly consumption of electricity we must know the power of various electric equipment we use in our houses.

The following are the power of various electric equipments:

Lamps (Bulbs)- 60  watts

Lamps (CFL)- 15 watts

Tube Lights- 40  watts

Electric iron     box- 750 watts

Immersion heater-    1000 watts

Water heater/Geyser-2 000 watts

Instant Geyser- 3000 watts-

Refrigerator (165 liters )-150 watts

Window air -conditioner -( 1.5 ton)    -2650 watts

Room cooler ( medium)-    200 watts

Table fan/ceiling fan- 75 watts

Exhaust fan-  150 watts

Washing machine-     400 watts

Television-    100 watts

Mixer-  500 watts

Wet Grinder- 300 watts

Microwave oven-     1200 watts

Computer-     200 watts

Mosqutio Repeller    -9 watts

Pump motor (1 HP)    -740 watts

Mobile /Battery Charger-    7 watts

Let us now take an example as below:-

In a house, let us say, the following electrical equipments are used:
  • 4 tube lights (used daily for 6 hours)-(4x40x6x30)/1000=28.8 units
  • 4 bulbs (used daily for 2 hours)-(4x60x2x30)/1000=14.4 units
  • 4 fans(used daily for 15 hours)(4x75x15x30)/1000=135 units
  • 1 Television(used for 12 hours)(1x100x12x30)/1000= 36 units
  • 1 Refrigerator( used for 24 hours)(1x150x24x30)=108 units
Total Consumption of electricity will be 322 units/320 units for 1 month and 640 units bimonthly.

If and when Air Conditioner/s, Pump-Motors, Washing Machines are in regular use in a house, the consumption of electricity will be high and the EB bill will also be very high,in view of the increased rate per unit for higher slabs of use of units.

An Indian old man, with Vegetarian Food Habits- Mr.Ramajit Raghav of Kharkhoda village near Sonepet in Haryana created a record as the ‘world’s oldest father’ at the age of 94 Years in 2010, when his wife Mrs. Shankuntala  who was 52 years old then, gave birth to their first son (Bikramjeet).

Now, in December  2012, Mrs. Shakuntala Raghav has given birth to their second son (Ranjit) of Mr.Ramajit Raghav, and Mr.Raghav has broken his own record, and he is the ‘world’s oldest father’ at the age of 96 years.

According to Mr.Ramajit Raghav he had led a very simple life and he did not get married for a long time.

He had followed a strict vegetarian diet, taking milk, butter and fruits since his childhood.

As they cannot afford to have still more children, the couple Mr.Raghav and Mrs.Shakuntala have decided not to have a third child. Mrs.Shakuntala will undergo ‘tubectomy’ surgery, instead of his undergoing ‘vasectomy’ surgery for their ‘family-planning .

‘The People for Ethical Treatment to Animals Organisation’ will be running a campaign connecting  vegetarianism and fertility, under the slogan of 'Vegetarians Still Got It At the Age of 96.' Posters will feature a photograph of Mr. Ramajit Raghav with his youngest son Ranjit, and they are set to circulate towards the end of the year.

However, Mr. Ramajit’s Raghav’s achievement is not  recorded in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’.

Indian Couple Convicted by a Norway Court For "Child Abuse" of Their Own Son

An Indian Software Engineer (an employee of TCS)  Mr.Chandrasekhar Vallabhaneni from Hyderabad,
Andhrapradesh had been staying in Norway from the year 2007, with his wife Mrs.Anupama
and their 7 years old son, studying in a school at Norway.

The couple’s son had been found wetting his pants in the school bus and the boy used to bring home
toys from the school.

When this was reported to the father he had threatened that he would be sent
back to India.

Both the father and the mother had been treating their son very badly with scolding, threatening, beating violently with belt or similar things,  burning his leg with a hot spoon  or similar objects causing burn marks on his leg and threatening him to brand his tongue with a hot spoon. They perhaps had done all these to correct
their son's behaviour.

When the teacher in his school asked the son about the injury in his leg, he told the teacher about his parents’ maltreatment and threatening to send him back to India for his wetting his pants in the school bus.

The teacher made a police complaint against the Indian parents about their "Child Abuse" and maltreatment of the boy for more than 6 or 7 months.

The Indian couple were arrested by the police of Norway and enquired by the Oslo District Court of Norway.

On enquiry into their alleged 'serious child abuse', the Indian couple have been found guilty and sentenced
by the Norway court, with unconditional jail terms of:
  • 18 months to the father and
  • 5 months to the mother.
The Indian Consulate officials have been in touch with the accused/convicted Indian parents and their
lawyer. The couple will be making appeals against the convictions to the High Court in Norway.

The saying ,"Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child" may be right.  However, the "Rod" should be rightly used without wounding the child physically and mentally.

"International Olympics Committee"/IOC has suspended India’s National Olympic Committee-
“Indian Olympic Association”/IOA  on 4th December 2012 because of the Indian Government’s interference in the Olympic Committee elections.

“Indian Olympic Association”/IOA failed to comply with the world body's rules on the holding of elections.

The IOC had repeatedly told the Indian body to adhere to its own constitution and the 'Olympic Charter'  and not follow the government's sports code for the committee' s elections.

The IOC had been warning the Indian Olympic Associationof suspension since several months.

Subsequent to the IOA’s refusal to respond to the request of the IOC for a meeting, the decision of suspension had been taken by the IOC.

The IOA under its new President Mr.Abhay Singh Chautala had presented India’s case to the IOC through
its 2 members panel of Mr Narinder Batra  and Mr.RK Anand. However, there has been no response from IOC.

The IOC  is not ready to recognize the resultsof the IOA's committee electionsas the elections  held by the IOA, under government rules.

It is notable that the IOC had also recently threatened to suspend Kuwait's Olympic committee, but the Gulf nation amended its sports law last week in a bid to avoid suspension from Olympics.

Is the Structure of the Renovated "MGR MEMORIAL" on the Marina Beach Against EC Rules ?

$
0
0
The Memorial of the former Chief Minister and founder of AIADMK,Dr.M.G.Ramachandran  on the ‘Marina Beach’ at Chennai has been renovated recently by the Government of Tamilnadu.

The entrance of the  renovated structure of the  “MGR Memorial”  resembles the AIADMK’s  election symbol of the “Double Leaves”.

The DMK has filed a petition in the Madras High Court challenging the above construction of the AIADMK Government, as it is against the rules of the Election Commission of India.

The DMK claims that the structure is in fact the AIADMK’s symbol and demands  for its removal and the Tamil Nadu government maintains that it is not the election symbol of the AIADMK as approved by the EC.

According to the DMK the election symbol of  a political party cannot be constructed at the cost of public money on a government property. And a party in power cannot canvas for itself by erecting a permanent structure of its own symbol,  which  is misuse and gross abuse of power, besides a breach of trust and wastage of public money.

The DMK  had given petitions to  the Chief Secretary and the Chief Election Commissioner to stop the addition of the “two leaves” to the MGR memorial.

According to the Tamilnadu Government  it is a ‘Y’ shaped structure with two wings, a honeycomb jaali arrangement at the top portion and ‘Pegasus,’ a flying horse and there is no similarity between the structure and the AIADM’s election symbol.

According to the Election Commission  of India, the model code of conduct and other restrictions  on campaigning would be in force only when election is announced and even if the constructed structure be proved to be the AIADMK’s election symbol, the EC cannot do anything in the matter.

The EC had ordered for draping of statues of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,Ms. Mayawati,  and her party symbol elephant, when the State  of UP went to Assembly polls, eary this year.

The EC had ordered for draping the photographs and portraits of the then Prime Minister of India and BJP leader Mr.A.B. Vajpayee installed on the Highways  prior to the 2004 Lokh Sabha  Elections.

Likewise, the EC would take appropriate steps as and when the segment/place wherein  the MGR memorial is located goes to polls.

Now, the Madras High Court will decide on the matter.

Will the "Chennai City Corporation" Successfully Control and Eradicate 'Mosquitoes' By Growing Mosquitoes?

$
0
0
‘Mosquito’ is one of the many health hazards of Tamilnadu, especially, Chennai City.

Mosquitoes are spreading many diseases including the deadly disease of ‘dengue fever’.

The Corporation of Chennai has been taking steps to control and eradicate  mosquitoes and ‘dengue fever’.

The Chennai City Corporation has shortlisted a technology for eradicating mosquitoes, after screening 23 projects/proposals submitted by private agencies.

The shortlisted project to control mosquitoes is surprisingly  to grow mosquitoes and control “Mosquitoes by Mosquitoes”.

Actually, only the female mosquitoes are biting human beings and cause and spread many diseases. The male mosquitoes never bite human beings and their food is the nectar from flowers.

The new project of mosquito-control is as detailed below:
  • The technology is  to grow ‘sterile male’-mosquitoes to support its mosquito control operations without harming the .environment
  • Specially designed glass houses having  a dimension of 20 feet by 100 feet will be formed to grow ‘sterile male mosquitoes’ of different species in and around Chennai City
  • About 1 lakh of mosquitoes will be produced, of which about 40% of es will be male mosquitoes
  • The females will be separated by attracting them using male pheromones and  killed
  • The  remaining male mosquitoes will be subjected to ‘gamma radiation’ of appropriate dosage to make them sterile.
  • The sterile male mosquitoes thus produced will be introduced in and around Chennai City  with high mosquito density
  • The female mosquitoes breeding  in such areas will lay infertile eggs.
  • The female mosquitoes will die after laying eggs
  • And the infertile eggs laid by the female mosquitoes will not hatch and this will lead to reduction in the number of mosquitoes in and around Chennai  City.
The following factors will be involved in the above project of "Growing Mosquitoes To Kill Mosquitoes" :
  • Exorbitant cost in procurement of pheromones to separate the male mosquitoes from the female mosquitoes,
  • Requirement of sufficient trained manpower,
  • Clearance of the  ‘Atomic Energy Regulatory Board’  in commissioning equipment for emitting gamma radiation to sterile the male mosquitoes,
  • The challenges caused by the mosquitoes-breeding grounds in over 25,000 unoccupied plots of land, two lakh overhead tanks, 74,526 wells, 65,166 sumps and 1,300 km of storm-water drains
  • The existing "Fogging" operations to control  mosquitoes will have to be continued.

Will the 'Sexual Offenders' in India Get Quicker and Severe Punishments?

Sexual offenses are increasing in India. Rapes and sexual  harassment incidents are reported everyday in various parts of India.Recently, a 23 years old girl was raped in a moving bus at Newdelhi.

People of India, including women welfare organizations strongly protest against such sexual abuse and harassment against women in India and demand for more severe punishments, including the capital punishment- hanging  to the rapists and all sex-offenders.

Dr.Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India acknowledged that anger and protest against sexual abuse and rape is “genuine and justified”.

According to the Indian Home Ministry, decision making should happen in a rational manner and it cannot be driven merely by emotions.
