Is Mr.Pranab Mukherjee holding Offices of Profit as Complained by Mr.P.A.Sangma?

In the presidential election to be held on 19th July 2012 in India, Mr.P.A.Sangma is contesting with NDA's support against the UPA's candidate Mr.Pranab Mukherjee.

After both the contestants filed their During the process of the filing of nominations for the presidential elections, Mr.P.A.Sangma complained that Mr. Pranab is holding an office of profit being the  Chairman of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and demanded the presidential election returning officer to cancel the nomination of Mr.Pranab Mukherjee.
.
The Government and the UPA told that Mr. Pranab Mukherjee resigned from the Chairmanship of ISI on 20th June 2012 itself. The Director of the ISI also confirmed that Mr.Pranab Mukherjee had already resigned from the Chairmanship of ISI on 20th June 2012 and the President of ISI had accepted the resignation on the same day.  Further, the director of ISI told that the Chairmanship of ISI is not an office of profit, as there is no remuneration being paid to the Chairman of ISI.

After receiving the reply  from Mr. Pranab Mukherjee that he had already resigned from all the posts and positions held, including the Chairmanship of the ISI, Kolkata,  the returning officer rejected Mr.Sangma’s complaint.

Mr. P.A.Sangma demanded for the copies of the counter of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee and the returning officer provided the copies of the proceedings as demanded.
On perusing the proceedings papers, Mr.P.A.Sangma’s side represents that the signature of Mr. Pranab Mukherjee in the said resignation letter dated 20th June 2012 which is not in the letter head of Mr.Pranab, varies from his original signature, and even from the signature on the reply letter and claims that the resignation letter is a fabricated one, created by the UPA- Government and the ISI, after Mr. P.A.Sangma’s claim for the cancellation of Mr.Pranab Mukherjee’s nomination on the office of profit grounds.

Mr.Pranab Mukherjee’s side agreed that there is difference in signature on the resignation letter and the signatures on the nomination papers and the reply letter. However, Mr.Pranab Mukherjee maintains that he only signed his resignation letter of ISI Chairmanship.

However, the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata claims that the signature on the resignation letter is the same as the signature that he uses as the Chairman of the ISI- Council and  the ISI is ready to face  even if Mr.Sangma’s side go to a court of law for this purpose.

According to law, it is necessary and sufficient  that the signature must have been put by the signing person's hand.

The signature of a person need not be identical always, as insisted by Indian Post Office Savings Bank Officials and by some Banks, who are very particular about identical signatures to safe-guard the funds of the customers..

The 'Signature Experts" will find out whether reallly Mr.Pranab Mukherjee had signed in the letter of resignation of ISI Chairmanship, or any other person  forged the signature.

In office matters, the officials used to use different signatures:
  • sign in full form,
  • use short signature and
  • put  initials.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the Returning Officer's dismissal of their complaint, a three-member delegation on behalf of Sangma met the Election Commission, which gave them time to present their written submission on their demand by Monday evening.

Mr. PA Sangma  sought then Election Commission's intervention for a fresh probe into his objections against the candidature of UPA nominee  Mr.Pranab Mukherjee,  levelling new allegations that he was still holding the following two more offices of profit:
  • Vice President of Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology and
  • Chairman of Rabindra Bharti Society, which forms the Rabindra Bharti University.
After the Elections Commission’s action on the above issue:
  • Either the nomination of Mr.Pranab Mukherjee will be declared as invalid or
  • The presidential election processes  will continue and the results will be declared
If and when Mr. Pranab Mukherjee is declared elected as the president, Mr. Sangma will challenge Mr.Pranab’s  election in the Supreme Court of India.

Mr.Pranab Mukherjee must prove that he had already resigned from all the offices of profit held by him, including the above two pointed out by Mr.P.A.Sangma.

It appears that the "Final Contest" and the "Final Results"  for the President of India from 25th July 2012 will be  in the Supreme Court of India.

  • Clean bulbs and tube-lights periodically to avoid reduction in illumination.
  • Fans:
  • SWITCH OFF Fans when not required
  • Use light weight / energy efficient fans.
  • Use electronic regulators for fans for they consume less power and provide fine control.

Iron Boxes:
  • Avoid ironing one or two clothes daily and adopt large scale ironing.

Refrigerators:

  • Keep refrigerator away from the wall to allow air to circulate around the refrigerator.
  • Avoid frequent closing and opening of refrigerator door.
  •  Allow heated food stuff to cool down to normal temperature before refrigerating.
  • Make sure foods are covered before they are kept in the refrigerator.
  • Defrost regularly to keep freezers working their best.
  • Thermostat control in refrigerators should be adjusted to optimum level depending upon climatic condition.
  • Use energy efficient star labeled refrigerators, instead of old ones which need repairs.
Water-Pumps(Motors):
  • Use energy efficient water pumps.
  • Use correct size PVC piping system in water lines.
  • Arrest leakage of water in taps / joints.
  • Use capacitors for water pumps to improve power factor.
  •  Use level controllers for tripping of water pumps while pumping of water to overhead tanks etc.,
  • Avoid water leakage in taps / joints.
  • Insulate hot water pipes to reduce heat loss.
Computers:
  • Turn off your Computers at home, when not in use.
  • If your computers at home must be left on, turn off the monitor which uses more than 50% of electricity needed for using computers.; this
  • Keep Computers, monitors, and copiers   in ‘Sleep Mode’  to cut electricity consumption by about 40 %.
  • Instead of  using Screen savers  which will save only computer screens, not energy, computers may be shut down and start-up, which do not require extra energy.
The consumers of TNEB affected by, the hike  in EB Tariff ( whose EB Bills are almost doubled) and Power-Cuts (both scheduled and un-schudeled) along with "Low -Voltage"/ Voltage Fluctuations Problems, are eagerly awaiting  TNEB:
  • To take steps to receive complaints of "Low Voltage" and
  • To attend to the complaints promptly and
  • To  rectify the 'low voltage'  problems with a 'time-frame' and
  • To ensure "upto the mark supply" of  electricity in the State of Tamilnadu, especially in Chennai.
It is notable that the High Court of Madras has recently advised TNEB to do as above.

Will the “New Tatkal Scheme” of the Indian Railways be "Commuter-Friendly" and help "Genuine Passengers" ?

$

The Indian Railways has introduced a “New Tatkal Scheme” wef 10th July 2012.

As Per the “New Tatkal Scheme”:
  • The passengers can  book train tickets for the trains of the next day under  “Tatkal Scheme” at exclusive counters at the Reservation Centers from 10 00 am to 12 00 noon,
  • Authorized Travel Agents and the Agents of  the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets from 10 00 am to 12 00 noon,
  • There will be separate “Tatkal Counters” and Separate Queues for “Tatkal Tickets” at Railway Reservation Centers,.
  • CCTVs will also be installed at booking counters to monitor the 'Taktal' bookings at Reservations Centers,
  • Passengers must  carry self-attested photo copies of Photo Identity Proofs to book under the “New Tatkal “ Scheme,
  • A maximum of only four passengers can be booked on a single ticket in the “New Tatkal Scheme”.
  • Authorizes Agents can book online using internet, only one ticket per day, per train after 12 00 noon,
  • Passengers booking tickets online using the internet under the “New Tatkal Scheme” can book only two tickets from 10 00 am to 12 00 noon.

According to the Railways Authorities, because of the above rules of the “New Tatkal Scheme” the black marketers will have less time to sell train tickets at premiums.

The Railways has introduced the so called "New Tatkal Scheme", to restrict agents and staff of railways selling tatkal tickets at premiums in black market and make train tickets bookings "Commuter-Friendly".and made the following changes:
  • reduction of timings for tatkal bookings and
  • the staggering  of commencing time from 08 00 am to 10 00 am, which will affect office goers and
  • the restriction of the number of passengers to 4 passengers per ticket and
  • the restriction of online booking of “Tatkal Tickets”.
As  it is obvious that the agentcy system is the root cause for the difficulty in the "genuine passengers" getting tatkal train tickets, why don’t the Railways completely scrap the “Agency System” in trains tickets bookings?

The changes being made by the Indian Railways, in the "Tatkal Tickets Bookings" are only discouraging "genuine passengers" booking tickets online.

"The First Super-Star of Indian Cinema"- Kaka- Rajesh Khanna's Recorded Message to his Fans Published after his death!

India's First Super-Star”-Rajesh Khanna of Bollywood who expired on 18th July 2012, has left a recorded message spoken by him in Hindi, for his fans,  to be published after his death.

In his recorded message published now, Rajesh Khanna/Kaka has not given anything personal, secret, or thrilling.

It is only a 'thanksgiving and farewell message' to his fans who made him the "First Super-Star" of not only Bollywood but of the Indian Cinema World.

In his message Rajesh Khanna has narrated how he was selected in the Hindi Film World, by an audition/interview with big Bollywood Producers.

He has given in the message the Hindi dialogue spoken by him in the interview which made him a film star. The following is the translation of the message in English:

“My dear friends, I am not a person to lament on or rejoice on thinking  of the past sentimental events and I am not a person to get nostalgic.

I believe in living in the present and I have always looked ahead towards the future. Whatever happened will be in the past and thinking about the past happenings will not help.

But, when we suddenly come across familiar faces in unfamiliar settings  the past memories come back to our minds rushing back.

I am reminded of my entry into the Film World more than 40 years back.

My journey in the Film Industry began with theater and I owe my success to the stage.

When I entered the film world, I had no ‘God Father’, no relatives or family members to guide me and help me to enter the film world or to become a film star.

I entered the field and came into the movies through the “United Producers -Filmfare Talent Contest”.

Persons interested in acting in films were called to the “Times of India”  in the presence of celebrated filmmakers like:
  • Chopra saab,
  • Bimal Roy ,
  • Shakti Samanta and many others.
The Film producers conducted interview to select actors. They asked me whether I had memorized the dialogue sent by them in advance and asked me to talk the dialogue.   I was sitting in front of the table where the producers were seated and I was feeling as if I was in a court- trial. I imagined that they might shoot me with a gun.

However, I boldly answered them and said,” I know the dialogue but you have not told me what is the characterization of the person to deliver the dialogue. Is he the hero who is announcing to his mother that he plans to marry a dancer and maker her  the daughter-in-law of the house?  You have not told me whether the  hero is rich, middle class or poor. Is the hero a villainous character or a pleasant fellow, etc.”

The Producer Mr Chopra said, "You are from the stage and  so make your own characterization as to how you will convince the mother."

I told him that the dialogue sent by them is not for a stage actor to speak and Mr.Chopra asked me to choose my  own dialogue and speak.

I was nervously sweating and anxiously  wondering which dialogue I should impress them with. I had seen their movies several times and began to talk.

The  following is the dialogue I spoke which opened the gates to me to the Star World and which began my travel in cinema.

“Yes, I am an artist, yes, I am an artist, what you would you do by hearing my story?”.

(“Mujhko yaaron maaf karna. Haan main kalakaar hun, haan main kalaakar hun. Kya karoge meri kahaani sunkar?”...`

Friends, I am a part of you, and as I said, you have all given your time for me.My dear fans, you  are the ladder to my success  and I have no words to thank you all.  I received love from you all and I am unable to return it back.  This is the love, your presence in large numbers that I am grateful for and I thank you and my greetings and wishes to you all.

Summary of the President of India Mr.Pranab Mukherjee's Address On the Eve of India's 65th Independence Day

My fellow citizens,
I am happy to address you for the first time, on the eve of the 65th Independence Day of India.

I am grateful to you all for placing me at this high office.

However, I know that the highest honour in our democracy does not lie in any office, but in being a citizen of India, our motherland.

We are all equal before our Mother India.

On this 65th Independence Day of India, let us gratefully remember the extraordinary men and women who sacrificed their 'todays' for our 'tomorrows'.

As pointed out by "Netaji" Subhash Chandra Bose, our chief national problems are eradication of poverty, illiteracy and disease.

As said by our former President of India, Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, "Economic progress is one of the tests of democracy."

If our economy has achieved critical mass, then it must become a launching pad for the next leap.

We need a second freedom  struggle; this time to ensure that India is free for ever from hunger, disease and poverty.

Let us thank our Armed Forces and Police Forces, who help us to sleep in peace, by their awakening  and vigilance in the desolation of desert and mountain and forest and in the vast loneliness of the seas. Our armed forces not only guarantee our peace, but also produce medal winners at Olympics.

I congratulate all who have done their nation proud at the recently concluded Games, by winning as well as by participating. The number of trophies may not be too large but it is a remarkable improvement upon the last count, Four years later, when I hope to address you again, I am sure, we will celebrate a medals spring.

My Fellow Citizens,
  • Let us leave behind the way of hatred, violence and anger,
  • Let us put aside our petty quarrels and factions,
  • Let us work together for our nation with the devotion of a child towards a mother,
  • Let us repose our faith in this invocation from Upanishads.
  • May God Protect us and Nourish us.
  • May we Work Together with Vigour and Energy.
  • May our Studies be Brilliant.
  • May there be no Hostility amongst us.
  • May there be Peace, Peace, Peace.
  • Peace must be our ideology, progress our horizon.
  • JAI HIND!

Summary of the Prime Minister of India Dr.Manmohan Singh's Independence Day 2012 Address

My dear countrymen, brothers, sisters and dear children,
I greet you all on this anniversary of our Independence. We have achieved much in these 65 years.
Today is certainly a day to celebrate the success of our democracy.

However, on this occasion we should also introspect about what remains to be done. We would achieve independence in the true sense only when we are able to banish from our country:
  • poverty,
  • illiteracy,
  • hunger and
  • backwardness.
This would be possible only when we learn from our failures and build on our successes.

As far as creating an environment within the country for rapid economic growth is concerned,
I believe that we are not being able to achieve this because of a lack of political consensus on many issues.

I promise to you today that our Government will work hard for India's rapid economic growth and for shielding the country from the effects of the global economic slowdown.

I promise that we will work hard for creation of new employment opportunities for our young men and women living in villages and cities.

We will make every possible effort to secure the livelihood of our poor brothers and sister, our workers and our farmers.

We will leave no stone unturned to encourage investment in our country so that our entrepreneurs can make
a substantial contribution to our economy.

We want to create many new job opportunities for our youth in the coming years. To achieve this it is necessary that we train them in skills which our economy needs.

This year we will present the Twelfth Five Year Plan for consideration of the National Development Council. The Plan would determine the future course of action on all important matters relating to the country's development.

I would like to emphasise here that our armed forces and paramilitary forces have defended the security of our country  both during war and peace with valour and honour.

Our soldiers have made the biggest of sacrifices, whenever needed. Today I would like to reassure our countrymen that  our armed forces and paramilitary forces are prepared to face any challenge.

The Government will continue to work for modernizing these forces and providing them with
the necessary technology and equipment.

Today, I would like to thank our security forces, who are guarding our frontiers bravely, from the bottom of my heart. We will continue to make efforts for their welfare.

Our Government has paid special attention to the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities,
women and other weaker sections.

I believe that no power in the world can stop our country from achieving new heights of progress and development.

What is needed is that we work together as one people for the success of our country.
Let us once more resolve that we will continue to work for a progressive, modern and prosperous India.

Dear children join me in saying Jai Hind,
Jai Hind,Jai Hind.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU)

had called for a ‘Two Days’s Strike’ in July 2012, in protest against:
  • The reforms and outsourcing of non-core activities in the banking sector  in India,
  • The Government’s Policies of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalization in the Banking Sector in India,
  • The Banking Amendment Bill- 2011 containing provisions such as raising of shareholders’ voting rights from 10 per cent to 26 per cent in private banks and supersession of bank boards,
  • The unilateral implementation of the Khandelwal Committee Report on Human Resources Management in the Public Sector Undertaking Banks.
The Khanelwal’s Committ has recommended:
  •   more outsourcing of non-core activities in a time-bound manner,
  •  for raising the standard of recruitment, including methodology and content for testing,
  • computer skills will be mandatory for both officers and clerks,
  •  that the minimum qualification for clerks  should be Graduation and  for Sub-Staff should be Class 10
However, the strike was postponed, as the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) & the Labour Commissioner had called the UFBU for talks on the demands of the bank employees.

Now, as there is no positive response from the IBA & the Labour Ministry, nearly 10 lakh bank employees of:
  • 24 public- sector banks,
  • 12 private banks and
  •  6 foreign banks
have begun the 2 days’s strike from 22nd August to 23rd August 2012 for the above reasons and for demanding:
  •  stringent and effective measures to recover bad loans,
  •   pension revision,
  •  housing loan revision,
  •  a five-day working week and
  •  human resource related issues.
