"Mercy Petitions" Cleared By and Recently Forwarded To Pranab Mukherjee- The President of India

Hon’ble-Pranab Mukherjee, who took his office as the President of India on 25th July 2012 has so far disposed of the following 8 “Mercy Petitions” of  death row convicts in 5 cases as detailed below:




Case of Murder of Step-Mother, Step-Brother and Step-Sister over Properties- Issues -

• Atbir of Delhi-

The Mercy Petition was Accepted by the President on 15th November 2012 and the death  penalty was commuted to "Life imprisonment".

Case of 26/11/2004 Mumbai Terror Attacks::

• Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab-

The Mercy Petition Rejected by the President on 5th November 2012 and
Kasab was hanged on 21st November 2012

Case of  2001-Parliament of India Attack Case- 

• Afzal Guru-

The Mercy Petition was Rejected by the President on 3rd February 2013 and
Afzal Guru was hanged on 9th February 2013.

Case of Killing  2 wives and a daughter Cases- 

• Saibanna Ningappa Natikar of  Karnataka-The Mercy Petition has been rejected by the President on 4th January 2013 - Execution Pending

Case of Killing 22 police personnel in 1993 (Associates of Sandalwood King-Veerappan of Karnataka):

• Gnanaprakash
• Simon
• 'Meesai' Madaian and
• Pilavendran.

The Mercy Petitions have been Rejected by the President on 13th February 2013-Executions Pending.


Mercy Petitions Forwarded to the President Pranab Mukherjee:

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs/MHA  has now forwarded 7 Mercy Petitions of Death Row Convicts in 6 cases of multiple murders for Final Decision of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee as detailed below:

2- Cases of Murder of 5 Family members of the family of a girl he had already raped in the year 1993

• Dharampal of Haryana

Case of Drugging and Killing of 8 of the Family members including the parents in Hissar in the year 2001:

• Sonia, daughter of a former Haryana MLA and

• Sanjeev the Husband of Sonia

Case of Rape and Murder on 30th June 1989

• Sunder Singh of Uttarakhand

Case of Killing wife and 5 daughters in the year 2002

• Jafar Ali of Uttar Pradesh

Case of Killing 4 members of a family on 23rd February 1994

•  Praveen Kumar of  Karnataka

Case of Killing 13 members of a family on 17th August 1986
